About Jessica Suetsugu
Telehealth Psychologist Australia
Professional Experience
I have worked in a number of mental health and crisis support settings over my career.
As a culturally sensitive psychologist, I have supported clients with anxiety, burnout, chronic pain, cultural challenges, depression, sleep issues, and more.
I am particularly passionate about working collaboratively with you to increase your self-confidence and self-compassion from a trauma-informed perspective.
I can utilise multiple therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), Assertiveness Training, Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy.
At the end of the day, I take a person-centred approach. These sessions are for you! So it’s critical that you feel heard and that your goals and preferences are taken into account.

Therapeutic Approaches
As your Clinical Psychologist, I’m here to be your sounding board, guide, and/or advisor. I have been trained in evidence-based therapies which can help numerous mental health presentations. Does that make me an expert? Sort of.
Just like you, I’m a human being. I don’t always get things right and sometimes I forget to take my own advice. In fact, you are the expert in your own life! What I provide is an objective perspective on your situation which can help open up channels for change.
With my professional and personal experiences (as a chronic pain psychologist), I hope to make you feel heard, supported and empowered. Although I may not have every experience that you have, I will do my best to empathise with and understand you.
If we do have shared lived experiences, then this may make it easier to build rapport and a sense of safety when discussing certain topics. (Even if we don’t, I always endeavour to create a safe space for clients).
Cultural Awareness and Lived Experience
I believe every person deserves to live their own truth without fear of discrimination.
Unfortunately, this is not the reality of the world, but I hope to provide a safe space for my clients and those around me, to be themselves fully. That is why, I see things through a trauma-informed therapy lens.
As an Asian Australian woman, I have experienced various forms of discrimination throughout my life. Experiencing this first and second-hand, has led to one of my core values that all people, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexuality etc., deserve the same basic human rights.
I have lived experience with chronic pain and learnt over the years, how best to manage my pain so that I can continue to do the things I love. Can I always do them? No, of course not. But I’m much better at accepting where I’m at and pivoting to maximise my current capacity.
